Carpet beetles are a type of destructive pest that can cause great damage to items located within your home. Biology and Behavior

  • All three species range in length from 1/8th-3/16th of an inch in length.

  • Carpet beetles have a dome shaped body, similar to what half of a pea looks like.

  • Their color pattern varies, depending on the species.

  • Carpet beetles can enter into homes on already infested products.

  • They can enter into homes through cracks and crevices they come across as they forage for food.

  • Carpet beetles do not bite people, but the bristles found on their larvae can cause an allergic reaction in some people.

  • Ensure that gaps found around windows and doors are sealed or caulked closed.

  • Screens should be kept intact, and any that are ripped or torn should be replaced.

  • Seal any cracks found in your home’s foundation.

  • Regularly vacuum and clean carpets and upholstery.

  • Make sure that stored fabric items are stored in airtight sealed containers.
