Termite Awareness Week
March 13, 2016
Do you understand the danger of termites? Most people actually don't. That is why we believe Termite Awareness Week is so important. Here are 8 Reasons why you should too.
Termites are so difficult to detect, they have been found to evade inspections done by certified home inspectors.
Drywood termites can attack homes from the air without any need for contact with the ground.
Termites warp and weaken structures and eat away at wooden keepsakes.
The damage done by termites is greater than damage done by fires, floods, and storms combined.
Subterranean termites can invade a home and eat away at wood supports for years without detection.
Termites never stop. These are simple organisms that do not require sleep.
Most homeowner's insurance does not cover termite damage.
Termites cost U.S. property owners billions of dollars in property damage each year.
March 13-19 marks the 5th annual Termite Awareness Week. Spring is coming, and along with it the beginning of home buying season. So it is the perfect time to bring awareness to the reality of these home-destroying insects. The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA) is working to promote awareness and vigilance about termites during this important week.
This annual designation is included in Chase's Calendar of Events and it is recognized throughout the pest-management industry. PPMA will be working to empower consumers with knowledge about how to protect their homes from the dangers of these home-destroying insects. “With the arrival of spring, many homeowners will begin to think about home improvements and perhaps even selling or buying a home. It is the perfect time to educate customers on termite prevention, detection, and treatment,” says Cindy Mannes, executive director of PPMA. “Pest professionals have tremendous knowledge, firsthand experience, and tools to educate on the damage termite colonies can cause and the importance of being proactive against this destructive pest. To spread the word, we are partnering with PPMA investors, NPMA members, and the entire pest control industry to promote termite awareness.”
PPMA is heading up this push for public awareness with the launch of several media relations and social media campaigns. Industry members are being encouraged to join in this cause by devoting their social media pages to termites during Termite Awareness Week.
They are encouraging companies to use the hashtag #TermiteWeek in all posts and interactions on Facebook and Twitter. PPMA has also developed an exclusive toolkit for Mainframe subscribers to use as a resource for their publicity efforts. The toolkit, available for download on PPMAMainframe.org starting in February, contains a customizable press release, suggesting social media content, high-resolution photography, media training documents, and other materials to assist companies in communicating to their customers, while at the same time gaining positive publicity for their business in the areas they serve.
