Stopping Summer Cockroach Infestations In Terre Haute

If there is one thing most everyone in Terre Haute can agree on, it’s the fact that cockroaches are unwelcome guests in our homes. These pests are just as filthy as they are unsightly! You may not know this but there are actually three different species of cockroaches commonly found in our area. Yikes! Though each of these cockroaches are different in their own way, they do share one similarity: they are all dangerous!

The first species that can be found in our area is the American cockroach which is, coincidently, the largest of the three. These roaches can usually be found in basements, attics, and sewer systems. Their tendency to spend time in sewer systems and other unsanitary places makes them extremely dangerous; as these roaches travel through these unclean places, they pick up bacteria and pathogens that they carry on their legs and bodies and, once they get inside, they deposit these harmful bacteria and pathogens throughout your home.

Next up we have the German cockroach. These roaches are usually found invading the kitchens and bathrooms inside our homes. These pests are known to be able to survive under extreme conditions. Like the American cockroach, these roaches can also spread diseases to humans by spreading harmful bacteria around our homes and can even cause allergic reactions in some people.

Last up is the Oriental cockroach; these roaches are known for their preference to remain cool. Are commonly found living under leaf piles, debris, and mulch. Oriental cockroaches will eat just about anything, especially starch-based foods, and give off a very strong foul odor.

None of these pests are very appealing to have around your home. As a homeowner, it is important to take precautions to prevent these cockroaches from invading. The most successful form of cockroach prevention is enlisting the help of a pest control professional, but there are a few steps you can take to lower your risk of infestation on your own including: eliminating sources of moisture, properly storing and cleaning up food, sealing all possible entry points these roaches could use to gain access to your home such as any small holes in the exterior or foundation of your home, getting rid of garbage and debris, and cleaning up any cluttered storage spaces.

Though these methods can be helpful in deterring cockroaches from invading, they aren’t the solution to your cockroach problem. It is very difficult it is to eliminate a cockroach infestation with DIY techniques, so the best option to rid your home of these pests is to contact a professional.
