Updated Fumigation Regulations 2019 | Are You In Compliance
January 24, 2019
When you run a business, you know that staying on top of all the most recent changes in how things are done is essential. Laws, best practices, and regulations can change frequently.
Part of being a business owner is keeping abreast of these changes, no matter how big or small. When you deal in exported goods, it’s especially important to know the regulations that govern these goods, both in the United States and in the countries to which you export.
As of September 1, 2018, Australia has updated its regulations regarding the import of goods by sea. This is to prevent the introduction of the brown marmorated stink bug, which is not found in Australia and would do great damage to their agricultural industries. These regulations are now in effect, and will remain in effect through April 30, 2019.
In order to keep brown marmorated stink bugs out of Australia, certain goods from high-risk countries (including the United States) that are shipped as sea cargo, must be treated before they are allowed ashore. The list of goods is extensive (the full list can be found here), but includes woods, a variety of metals, carpets, and other textiles, and glass.
If your company deals in any of these goods and exports to Australia, be sure to follow the regulations in order to keep your business running smoothly. Action Pest Control can help. We are an approved fumigator for shipments to Australia. We can treat your products and provide you with the necessary records for compliance.
