You may be noticing more spiders around your home this fall. We’re willing to bet these fun facts are enough to make your skin crawl! Muahahahaha!!! (<- Insert evil laugh here.)

  • All spiders are venomous (but not all are dangerous to humans.)
  • There are approximately 34,000 species of spiders on Earth – only 27 of which are known to kill humans with their bite!
  • A single spider can eat over 2,000 bugs per year!
  • Arachnophobia, the fear of spiders, is the most common phobia and affects more women than men.
  • The largest spider in the world, in terms of mass, is the Goliath Birdeater Tarantula (though they don’t normally eat birds.) Goliaths can be over a foot wide, weigh more than 6 oz., and have fangs over an inch long!
  • For its weight, spider web silk is actually stronger and tougher than steel!
  • Female Australian crab spiders are known to sacrifice their bodies as food to feed their offspring!
  • Cooked spiders, enjoyed in many parts of the world, are said to taste like peanut butter!
